EdUHK HPC Platform

Soft-launched in Mar 2025, the University’s High-Performance Computing (HPC) service marks a significant leap forward in our commitment to supporting advanced research and educational innovation. Designed to meet the growing computational demands of our academic community, the HPC platform is built on cutting-edge infrastructure and facilities. Robust Infrastructure

Our HPC operates on a Linux (Ubuntu) operating system, providing a stable and secure environment for high-performance computing. At its core is SLURM, a widely-used scheduler that efficiently allocates resources and streamlines job scheduling, ensuring optimal performance and resource utilisation.

Our service features the Open OnDemand web interface, which offers an intuitive and accessible platform for users to manage their computational tasks with ease. This user-friendly interface eliminates the need for Unix shell commands and allows researchers and students to step into HPC more swiftly.

The facility is equipped with powerful hardware to support a wide range of computational needs:

CPU Servers: Each server is equipped with enterprise grade CPU cores and efficient RAM, making it ideal for handling intensive computational workloads.
GPU Servers: Featuring NVIDIA server grade GPUs per node, these servers are designed for tasks requiring significant parallel processing capabilities, such as machine learning and data analysis.
NFS File Storage provides reliable and scalable storage solutions for seamless data access and management. 10Gb/s Ethernet Network ensures high-speed data transfer and connectivity, facilitating efficient collaboration and data sharing among researchers.

The soft launch of the EdUHK HPC service marks the beginning of a transformative journey. We are committed to enhancing our capabilities to meet the growing computing demands of research and education at the University.
